DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) and DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are the only diplomas for French as a foreign language issued by the French Ministry of Education. They are valid for life and recognised by employers, universities, and immigration authorities around the world.
Each diploma corresponds to one of the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), giving candidates a

Written production tasks including messages, letters, essays, or syntheses, assessed for structure, accuracy, and register.
A monologue task where candidates present, argue, or synthesise a topic, demonstrating fluency, coherence, and range.
